My sense of balance has always been rather precarious at best. As a child, I had the ability to effortless trip over cracks in the sidewalk. As an adult, I haven’t really changed that much – I still have difficulty, at times, with my left arm vs. right arm, my right foot vs. left foot. Sometimes I even have difficulty balancing on one foot. I’ve noticed, though, that my Thursday night Qi Gong/Taiji classes are creating a noticeable improvement in this area. I suspect it has to do with my breathing… during the movements, I am consciously paying attention to my breathe, coordinating it with my movements. I feel graceful and mindful of my body, and find myself in a near meditative state, despite the occasional bouts of giggles when I realize I’ve confused my left vs. right again.
