Monday, February 7th, 2011What brought you to the realization that you are a healer? Or, if you don’t define yourself as a healer, what led you to your current profession?
The overlap with martial arts is what brought me to Chinese medicine. The fascination with it kept me there and the gratification of helping others continues to keep me doing it.
What obstacles have you found in considering yourself a success in this field?
Self promotion
What schooling or training have you completed?
Undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, 6 year training in Chinese medicine (4 years in Tokyo, 2 years in Calgary, Alberta)
Do you find group gathering to be helpful in supporting you on your journey?
It depends on the group.
Does networking with others assist you in achieving your goals? What networking techniques have been most effective for you?
I have tried membership with BNI (Business Networking International) in Calgary for three years (breakfast meetings with other small business owners) but it never generated any referrals, most likely because none of the members were interested in their health. With regards to other networking techniques, referrals from other health professionals and networking with them sometimes generated referrals.
Is there advice you would offer to someone starting on this path?
Networking is best done with others whom have similar interests.
What type of advertising has worked best for you? What has been your best resource for building a client base?
Word of mouth and referrals from other medical professionals.
Where do you see yourself in a year? 5 years? Do you have any particular goals that you would like to achieve in the near future?
Increase my patient base until my practice is self-generating.
Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself?
I am an avid Yoga fan, Dart player, Tai Chi practitioner, and bass guitarist with a healthy disrespect for orthodoxy in its many forms.
